Heraclitus was the first philosopher to introduce the idea of everything in the world being in flux and constantly changing. We are witness to these complexities everyday from the changing weather and seasons, to how we feel when we wake up from day to day. Nothing can be replicated as everything around us and within us is constantly changing.
Hearclitus encourages individuals to try and take an objective view upon reflection, otherwise difficulties may arise as to being able to identify from our own subjective, personal experience from the objectivity of the world around us. If we are unable to detach from our own stuff, he argues that we live life in a dream like state, being resistant to understanding the the bigger picture.
These ideas in our modern world emphasise the importance of taking the time to reflect every now and then, objectively, so that we take the time to reassess, reevaluate, observe, listen and learn from what may be going on for us and and within the world around us, and from that standpoint being able to accept, acknowledge, adapt and grow from change gracefully both on and off our yoga mats, and rather than resisting change, embracing it.
