1/21/2015 0 Comments The philosophy of Heraclitus'YOU CANNOT STEP TWICE IN THE SAME RIVER AS EVERYTHING CHANGES AND NOTHING STANDS STILL' - Heraclitus
Heraclitus was the first philosopher to introduce the idea of everything in the world being in flux and constantly changing. We are witness to these complexities everyday from the changing weather and seasons, to how we feel when we wake up from day to day. Nothing can be replicated as everything around us and within us is constantly changing. Hearclitus encourages individuals to try and take an objective view upon reflection, otherwise difficulties may arise as to being able to identify from our own subjective, personal experience from the objectivity of the world around us. If we are unable to detach from our own stuff, he argues that we live life in a dream like state, being resistant to understanding the the bigger picture. These ideas in our modern world emphasise the importance of taking the time to reflect every now and then, objectively, so that we take the time to reassess, reevaluate, observe, listen and learn from what may be going on for us and and within the world around us, and from that standpoint being able to accept, acknowledge, adapt and grow from change gracefully both on and off our yoga mats, and rather than resisting change, embracing it. 'YOU CANNOT STEP TWICE IN THE SAME RIVER AS EVERYTHING CHANGES AND NOTHING STANDS STILL' - Heraclitus 12/9/2014 1 Comment An inspiring year of YogaLessons, learning, challenges, failures, its true you never stop learning, but its up to you what you decide to acknowledge and what you decide to ignore. We all do a lot of both and sometimes it takes a while to understand what we need to, but we get there in the end.
This year has been one of leaps and bounds, one that would not have been possible without my wonderful partner and also my wonderful students. I have enjoyed every moment and admire all the courage, dedication, openness and support you have brought to your yoga practice. Thank you for coming each week, rolling out your mat and generating an accepting and loving space where anyone is welcome. It has been a pleasure teaching each and every one of you and I hope we can continue this journey of yoga together. Namaste Yogis xx ![]()
